New Orleans Jazz Fest Day 2

Image
I started this little head before I went to France thinking it would become part of  a larger sculpture.  That never happened even though I kept it wrapped up for three months.  Last week I looked at it again, and it was too dry to continue with it, but  I loved the face so much, it seemed like it was enough just to be itself and that alone.  I  was very happy with the way it turned out,  and it was one of the first things I sold yesterday.... makes me think sometimes I make things into more than they need to be, and that sometimes, a head with a strong spirit is enough on its own.  I need to remember that.....

NOLA

These two cool cats will be out today on the first day of Jazz Fest!  And speaking of cool cats, last night we had a great dinner with friends at NOLA , one of Emeril's restaurants.  My favorite part was the waiters, they were completely adorable, and were like a pleasant charming swarm that would land very lightly on the table from time to time, addressing our every need.  I was even escorted to the ladies room, a first!!   The arugula watermelon salad was so good....

Pottery Thursday, sunny day set up!

Setting up today for Jazz Fest ,  a huge tornado went through Tuscaloosa last night, and we were driving through there earlier in the day.  Somehow we missed the bad weather, though we did see lots of broken trees.   I am feeling incredibly lucky to have dodged all of the bad weather......

Driving to New Orleans day 2

Image
Here is a cup I'll have at Jazz Fest .  Inspired by Claude!!  He will probably have doubled in size by the time I get home in 2 weeks.  We've got about 8 more hours of driving and we'll be in New Orleans.  Set up begins tomorrow morning.  Somehow I wasn't paying attention, and we ended up going through Lexington  instead of Louisville on our way south.  In a way, it was ok, because we missed all of the bad weather and tornados.  At last so far..... Hopefully the rest of the drive today will be uneventful.

Some work by my new art fair friend Elizabeth Frank .  Re meeting her has been the best part of the last two shows I've done.  Yesterday was so windy I thought my booth might lift off.  Actually my neighbors booth did!!!  It was an exhausting crazy day, but, we survived.  I'm at the Main Street Art Fair in Fort Worth this weekend.  Two days to go.

Pottery Thursday: The work of Maria Jose Gomes da Silva "Zezinha"

Image
Brazilian artist  Maria Jose Gomes da Silva I love the patterns and textures of her figures.  I  saw a few of them the other day at a fantastic Folk Art Gallery in San Antonio San Angel Folk Art , and they are even more spectacular in person.

I saw some great Mexican Ceremonial masks at the San Antonio Art Museum last night, but I'm leaving too early today for Fort Worth to get them up.  Maybe tomorrow!  I love a good a mask....

Possibly the sweetest and cutest ceramics couple ever.  They both teach at the S outhwest School of Art  in San Antonio! A few images of their work I found on the web, but check out their websites, please! Jennifer Ling Datchuk and Ryan Takaba

Seen on the street at the Fiesta Art Fair, in San Antonio!

"Fiesta San Antonio"  (or simply "Fiesta") is an annual spring festival held in  San Antonio, Texas  with origins dating to the late 19th century. The festival begun as a single event to honor the memory of the battles of  The Alamo  and  San Jacinto .  People really seem to enjoy dressing up in full color to celebrate!  That's my ceramic booth in the backgound!
