Jenny Mendes

I started this little head before I went to France thinking it would become part of  a larger sculpture.  That never happened even though I kept it wrapped up for three months.  Last week I looked at it again, and it was too dry to continue with it, but  I loved the face so much, it seemed like it was enough just to be itself and that alone.  I  was very happy with the way it turned out,  and it was one of the first things I sold yesterday.... makes me think sometimes I make things into more than they need to be, and that sometimes, a head with a strong spirit is enough on its own.  I need to remember that.....

These two cool cats will be out today on the first day of Jazz Fest!  And speaking of cool cats, last night we had a great dinner with friends at NOLA , one of Emeril's restaurants.  My favorite part was the waiters, they were completely adorable, and were like a pleasant charming swarm that would land very lightly on the table from time to time, addressing our every need.  I was even escorted to the ladies room, a first!!   The arugula watermelon salad was so good....

Setting up today for Jazz Fest ,  a huge tornado went through Tuscaloosa last night, and we were driving through there earlier in the day.  Somehow we missed the bad weather, though we did see lots of broken trees.   I am feeling incredibly lucky to have dodged all of the bad weather......

Here is a cup I'll have at Jazz Fest .  Inspired by Claude!!  He will probably have doubled in size by the time I get home in 2 weeks.  We've got about 8 more hours of driving and we'll be in New Orleans.  Set up begins tomorrow morning.  Somehow I wasn't paying attention, and we ended up going through Lexington  instead of Louisville on our way south.  In a way, it was ok, because we missed all of the bad weather and tornados.  At last so far..... Hopefully the rest of the drive today will be uneventful.

Leaving for New Orleans today to exhibit at Jazz Fest ..... and then onto the Saint Croix Pottery tour in  Minnesota !
