Ayanda Mji

Image
I was at an outdoor show this summer and someone mentioned Ayanda Miji's name to me, and said my work reminded them of hers.  I had never heard of her, but thanks to the trusty internet I found some images.  What fantastic work!  I love it.  I only wish she lived closer so I could go and meet her, but South Africa is so far away... Maybe some day if I am lucky.

Garden developments!!

Luckily I photographed these before the big rain yesterday knocked over all of my sunflowers especially the tall lovely dark ones incredibly beautiful calendula bronze fennel flox before the massacre greens galore! I need to do something with these before they get much longer.... any ideas? the long view a mystery plant I grew from some seeds I stole somewhere.... some sort of black eyed susan, but long stemmed, and quite tall.

August Reading

Image
I've listened to a few books so far this August..... Just finished Devil in the White City by Erik Larson Gruesome and fascinating!! Before that, two others, one that had been on my shelf lent by a friend for a year.... The Moon and Sixpence by W. Somerset Maugham Quite a story!!  I don't think I had ever read anything by him before. And lastly, State of Wonder by Ann Patchett It was a good listen.... lots of work to do in the next two weeks, so I imagine, I'll go through a few more books shortly!

An ode to the eye

Image
Sometimes random thing happen that upset your equilibrium.   Yellow jackets were making a nest in my roof, and two made there way into my studio before I had figured out what they were up to outside.   I'm not scared of insects, and I love bees, so I didn't think much of it, but one of them dive bombed me and stung me just below the eye for no reason.  I don't have great eyesight, but still, I don't honor my eyes and appreciate them as much as should, considering how much I depend on them.  Now with this bite, and allergic reaction, I can feel my right eye with everything I do.  It's hard to see.  Harder to work, I feel really unbalanced and my cheek is hot and striving to meet my eyelid and antihistamines don't seem to be doing much even in double doses to keep the swelling down.  I guess this is the perfect opportunity to say a prayer of thanks to my eyes and all they do for me on a daily basis, and hopefully this won't last too awfully long. ...

Kiev!!!

Image
I'll be in Kiev this fall, helping a friend with an art show.... with a few extra days to look around a bit. If you have any suggestions of amazing things to see or do or people to meet, please I'd love to hear from you!  This is my first visit to the Ukraine, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity!!!!!
