Carl Jung

A list of favorite quotes from Carl Jung:   Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol, morphine or idealism. Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to a better understanding of ourselves. Nobody, as long as he moves about among the chaotic currents of life, is without trouble. The healthy man does not torture others – generally it is the tortured who turn into torturers. The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases. As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being. There can be no transforming of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotions. A man who has not passed through the inferno of his passions has never overcome them. Great talents are the most love

One of my favorite contemporary artists.  She is an incredible and prolific painter, but it is what is behind the painting that really touches me.  And she is so very articulate about her thoughts, motivations, and experience of being human, truly an inspirational person to witness.  Here is an interview she recently did with wow x wow blog that I wanted to share.   Wow is all I can say... http://wowxwow.com/artist-interview/jana-brike-ai and a few paintings to tease you into reading it......

RISK Podcast

Image
So, my dear friend is visiting for a week... It is great to have her here.  I'm up super early, and so is she, and it's full on conversation from the minute we meet usually.  Topic of conversation.... well of course basketball, sex, life, family, philosophy, books, you name it and pretty much we'll go there and see where it leads.... She put a few new podcasts on my phone, and one that her brother suggested is fantastic.  I listened to it all day.  It's sort of like a bawdy version of The Moth..... and  I'm in LOVE!! with this podcast among other things.... :)  It is so nice to be with an old friend, sure wish we lived a little bit closer.... and an added bonus.....she can really bake!!  Give it a try if you dare!!   RISK! is not like other storytelling shows. It’s “where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public.” They encourage their storytellers to step out on a limb, be brutally candid and emotionally raw. This is

I have been collaborating with my friend Dawn for years on different projects.  One of them was a line of jewelry that she has created called DJ Freshie.  She's donated a collection of pieces we are selling at a discount in my Etsy Shop   https://www.etsy.com/shop/jennymendes?section_id=6451626&ref=shopsection_leftnav_8   and all of the proceeds will go to our fundraiser for Nepal.  Please check it out.  It's been going great on our crowdrise site as well!!!    You can see how we are doing here:   https://www.crowdrise.com/nepalearthquakereliefforvillageoflaitpur

"Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. If we could just remember this, I think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world." Frank Warren

Leonardo DaVinci "Something that has become clear in the last couple of weeks: so many people, I would even say most of us, are dealing with brokenness and crapstorms and situations and things falling apart, but we look fine on the outside. We know how to camouflage into a world that prefers everything on the rails. We know how to say "fine, thanks" and act normal enough to pass. Sometimes we don't know how to explain our truths, sometimes we are afraid of the inevitable reaction, sometimes we don't want to admit where we are actually at. If we knew what was really going on, we would be so much kinder, gentler, and more understanding with each other. We would understand that fear sometimes looks like anger, and that sadness sometimes looks like cool detachment, and that pain sometimes looks like cynicism. The exaggerated reaction usually belies something very raw underneath. We would be less careless with our words and ideologies and blanket statements

Enlightenment is a destructive process. It has nothing to do with becoming better or being happier. Enlightenment is the crumbling away of untruth. It’s seeing through the facade of pretense It’s the complete eradication of everything we imagined to be true. — Adyashanti—Awakening Our Truth

i am always learning by example.  from my father i have seen and experienced incredible generosity without his asking for anything in return.   time and time again i have witnessed the gratitude he expresses towards his friends.  i do my best to carry these lessons with me.  my father is 88 today, and we will celebrate all together..  he has been lucky to live a good long life filled with friends that he has loved with his whole heart.  i appreciate the way meaning evolves, as life is experienced more deeply.  i read charlotte's web several times when I was young, it was always a favorite book.
