Revisiting a former idea.....

It was a slow day, but I'm back to work!

Working on birds today.  This was a new one from my last firing.

I like how the patterns look in black and white...

More space seems to equal more detail......

Sometimes it feels like one step forward and two steps back. I think I'm liking this last one I did the best, but maybe that's because the light was diminished, so somehow the image came more clearly to me.  

A few cups in line to be bisqued soon.

I made this little girl last summer and finally finished her recently.

Seems like a boy to me....

I could  have only made this in winter. 

Sometimes the challenge of filling a deeply curved space is tedious, and difficult,  yet something exciting emerges if you don't give up on it. And then, there  is the thrill of an image that comes so easily, only to begin to peel off after the bisque.   I knew the yellow was problematic, but still I hoped I could make it work..... This was the one plate of 8 I was most excited about.  Now I get to keep it around for a while and learn it's story, before it all peels away.

I remember my grandmother telling  me that green was my best color when I was about 7 or 8.

Sneak peak - this cup will be in Akar Gallery's Yunomi Show this March.  This is only one side of three..... There is a woman with wild red hair on the flip slide.  

Still working on cleaning out my email and came across this photo.  I made the two pieces on the left when I was a Core Student at Penland School of Crafts in the mid 80's.  I remembered the little bronze dog that I had given away (why?  I don't know, probably because the material was unfamiliar and it confused me) but the other piece I really don't remember, though it looks like something I would have made and apparently I did make it!!  It's fun to see old work, especially when it's in the company of such a good looking cat!!
